Hosted Programs
The Sokoto House hosts and produces regularly scheduled in-house programs. These may be short or long term. Some of our key programs include Youth Empowerment Solutions (YES), Community Healing Initiative (CHI), and Hydro-Energy-Air-Land (HEAL).
Youth Empowerment Solutions (YES)
YES is an evidence based program that empowers youth to make positive changes in their communities and to work with adults to support their efforts.
The goals of the YES program are to provide youth with opportunities for meaningful involvement in preventing youth violence and creating community change, to enhance the ability of adults to support youth in an empowerment framework, and to change the social and physical environment to reduce and prevent violence (especially youth violence).
Some examples of activities available now include classes in:
- Urban Design
- Website Development
- CPR
These and other activities focus on professional skills as well as personal development and soft skills including:
- Emotional intelligence
- Workforce history and professional development
- Personal and community advocacy training
- Health behavior education
- Increased understanding and capacity to navigate and prevent violence in the community
Alumni of YES programs retain access to Sokoto House resources and support, even after the program is completed.
Are you a youth interested in joining the Sokoto House YES program and classes/activities? Just fill out and submit the form below to start the application process!
Watch the video below if you need help applying for the YES program.
These programs can lead into several workforce development, training, and apprenticeship programs for youth and young adults through partner organizations. Head over to the Training & Workforce Development page for more info or to sign up to apply!
Community Healing Initiative
Community Healing Initiative (CHI) is a health promotion campaign that facilitates increased understanding and supports a shift to behavioral norms that emphasize the healing of generational trauma and mitigates the negative effects of toxic stress.

HEAL is a community project designed to enhance community understanding and familiarity with agricultural science and their relationship with the ecology that surrounds them.
HEAL also aims to build community cohesion, resilience and cultivate youth leadership.
The HEAL project is partnered with and receives support from Mack Coyle of Coyle Solar. Mack is also a member of the Sokoto House advisory board.
